I love this graphic on Altom Consulting’s home page that shows the relationship between when a bug is found and the cost of resolving the problem.     Their tagline for the company that relates to this graphic: “We believe in testing as early as possible to minimize the impact and cost of fixing defects.”  

I’ve been aware of Gartner for many years because no matter what IT company I worked for, every executive swore allegiance to the Magic Quadrant. Seems like most execs believe in Gartner’s prediction of the future. It also seems to me their predictions are based on quite a bit of historical fact and good research.
