Yes, the holiday shopping season is still far in the future.  Wait…Cyber Monday is only 8 weeks away.  Yes, that gives you plenty of time before you need to start performance testing your e-commerce site.  Or does it?

Each year at the beginning of October, we have seen a distinct increase in emails and phone calls asking for help with website performance.  This year is no exception.  So, we thought we would share a few important statistics about web performance with our readers.

Consider these stats from Kissmetrics:

  • 79% of shoppers that are dissatisfied with website performance are less likely to buy from the same site again

  • Your website conversion rate decreases 7% for every 1 second increase in load time

  • 47% of shoppers expect a page to load in 2 seconds or less

  • 52% of shoppers say fast page load is important to site loyalty

According to Rackspace:

  • 40% of your customers leave if your website takes longer than 4 seconds to load

  • Consumers spent almost 2 billion dollars on Cyber Monday last year

  • Online sales are predicted to grow 9-12% during this holiday season

  • 167 million consumers shopped online in 2012

By the way, Google has stated that site performance is also affects search engine rankings.  Faster sites move up.  Slower sites move down.

Website visitors expect fast response times.  Duh.
